Finding Your Voice…

By: Michelle

So it turns out that PETA has a new campaign to try and stamp out animal agriculture called “Veggie Testamonials”. With the launch of a new website, new clothing, merchandise and the endorsement of several well-known celebrities such as Paul McCartney, Alicia Silverstone, and Forest Whitaker; it seems that PETA is going all out in this new promotion. But they’ve neglected to see who the real celebrities are in this day and age.

As it was illustrated in TIME’s 2006 Person of the Year issue, it is you, the consumer, who is the real star. With the expansion and development in technology, it’s easier than ever to broadcast yourself to the masses. Sites like MySpace, Facebook, and YouTube have opened up doors to millions of people to reach out to others and share their thoughts with the rest of the world.

With that in mind, I have a challenge for you. Actually, the whole National Beef Ambassador Team has a challenge for you. We want you to show us your creative style by showing us “More BEEF in More Places”. The rules are simple and the possibilities are endless. If you have a video camera, a little creative energy and a love for beef; then I encourage you to give it a shot. Plus if your video really blows us all away, you could win an iPod Touch.

So what are you waiting for? Check out the contest rules and info and get your voice heard!

  1. Michelle,

Woah- I had no idea ya had a blog site!…I will have to check it out more often! This “More Beef in more places’ sounds really cool…I’ll have to start brainstorming ideas.

  2. why the hell would anyone want to promote the beef industry? it’s corrupt, inhumane, and unhealthy.

  3. The industry that you speak of is certainly not the beef industry that I have been a part of for my entire life. My family raises cattle and there is nothing more important to us the the care of our animals. Everything we do is dedicated to providing them with the best care possible to produce the safest, most nutritious food possible for American consumers. That is the beef industry that I know and love.

  4. Jennifer is exactly right. We don’t produce beef to be in any way cruel. We produce beef because of our love for cattle. We care for our cattle and the land that nourishes them. Where I am from cattle are a producer’s livelihood. Cattle are some people’s career and may even be their only means of income. The stories that are not being told are those of the ranchers that care for the cattle they raise, the true lives they live, and the quality beef they produce. As for beef being unhealthy, in the American diet beef is the number one contributor of protein, zinc and vitamin B12, number two of vitamin B6, and number three of iron and niacin. Protein found in beef is essential because it provides the right amounts of amino acids your body needs in order to grow and function properly. There are 29 lean cuts of beef like sirloin. A 3 oz. serving of lean beef contributes less than 10% of the calories in a 2,000-calorie diet. At the same time, it supplies more than 10% of the Daily Value for the nutrients I listed above. 5. I think that this is an excellent ooportunity to learn more about what the beef industry is really about. We promote this industry because it is something we truely love and believe in. From the perspective of an outsider looking in…. we don’t always know the ins and outs or the real truth. The beef industry is far from corrupt, inhumane and unhealthy. We devote or time and lives to the cattle we raise and ensure the very best care is taken no matter what stage they are in from pasture to plate. We also know the nutritional value that beef offers our bodies and I would encourage you Emily to check your nutritional facts on beef, it has alot to offer to everyone. I would suggest that you might want to visit some of these sites that are in the above comment to learn more about what the Beef industry truely is…

  6. An absorbent amount of money is spent fighting animal agriculture every day. Imagine the impact we could have if we spent even a fraction of the time, money and resources standing up for the over 3 million children who are abused in the United States each year. 4 to 5 children DIE EVERY DAY from abuse and maltreatment. Perhaps we need to step back and reanalyze our priorities.
